Created, lived, and retold, right here in Jones Valley, Birmingham.

Bored? Bogus.

A few weekends ago, I ran in to a casual acquaintance whom, I’m reminded every time we see each other, is the spitting image of someone I aspire to be. She’s clever, quick-witted, a great mom, creative, full of faith… at least on the outside, she’s got it together.

We chatted briefly, to catch each other up on the few months that had passed since we’d last talked, and it wasn’t until after we said our goodbyes and I went about on my own way did I catch this one, stunning phrase.

“I’m really, kind of, like, bored. There’s just nothing to do in Birmingham.”

And this is where my envy of her calm, cool demeanor ends. I’m assuming she’s been living her sweet little life in a cave somewhere. Certainly, her Birmingham is not MY Birmingham.

Psh.

I mean, let’s just take this week in to consideration, shall we?

There’s the Tuesday night kick-off to the much-anticipated (FREE) Movies at Avondale Park.

There’s the finale to a glorious season of (FREE) Relax by the Tracks at Railroad Park, Thursday evening.

The (FREE) Freshworks! Festival will debut at Jones Valley Teaching Farm this Saturday.

Movers n’ shakers n’ preservationists from around the Magic City will be bustling about inside the historic Lyric Theatre Thursday evening and again Friday morning. Why? To learn how we can save this Birmingham treasure.

Trunkstock, the locally-brewed festival supporting Alabama Forever, will also debut Saturday. (You can check it out after a full day at Freshworks!)

So, in just that heavy handful of happenings (happening just this week), there are:

-free movies at a beautifully renovated park.

-ridiculously amazing live music in ridiculously cool locales.

-opportunities to save the world…or, at the very least, a historic downtown theater.

-community-building at its best.

-kid-friendly/pet-friendly excursions guaranteed to make the whole family happy.

-a generous offering of quality FREE events.

-plenty of reasons to NOT be bored.

There, I’ve made my case. And I’ve barely *brimmed* the activity-rich surface of all that’s going down in the next seven days.

Note: To keep your finger firmly on the pulse, just keep your browser acquainted with Birmingham365.

And, whatever you do, don’t tell ME you’re bored in Birmingham. ‘Cause that’s bogus… and I will most definitely call you out on your lack of coolness.
