Anyone who has changed like me to roam through desolate mountains and studied at length their fantastic shapes and drunk the invigorating air of their valleys can understand why I wish to describe and depict these magic scenes for others.
-Mikhail Lermontov (Hero of Our Time)
Well, hello there. Nice to have you here…
My name is Laura Kate and I’m a Southern-bred transplant, having arrived in the Magic City in late 2009. I have a loving husband, an ornery old cat, and two utterly adorable little boys. We live in the heart of Jones Valley. I write about the adventures, discoveries and conversations we experience here in Birmingham, Alabama.
I guess you could say my priorities are being an awesome mother, creating community, exploring this vibrant city, enjoying my husband’s culinary mojo, yoga, and (every now and then) a really swell old vine zin. First and foremost, I want to give our sons a home they can be proud of. This blog is intended to let everybody else know what was so obvious to me as soon as I landed here – Birmingham is on the verge; it’s potential is immeasurable.
I’m smitten with this place, its magic. And I know you feel it, too…
I write because I can’t help but document the journey. I’m prone to typos. I hope to run in to you soon, on the streets of the Magic City. I thank you for reading.
{In the meantime, follow me on Twitter, @MagicCity_Mama. And be sure to check out my (very Birmingham) blogroll. I’m just one of many voices here in Birmingham. The dialogue is rich, and you don’t want to miss any of it.}
