If there’s anything I’ve truly *adopted* here in the Magic City, it’s a love for locally-brewed beer. I can attribute that later-in-life affection to my dear husband, who has taught me a thing or two about hops and pils and proper consumption.
Right now, in Birmingham, beer is KING. Good People Brewing Company, Avondale Brewing Company, Cahaba Brewing Company, Beer Engineers… all of these have surged throughout Jones Valley ever since the Beer Modernization Act passed in 2011, allowing craft breweries more freedom to create (and serve) fantastic beer for the great people of Alabama to share and enjoy. (For more information about beer in Birmingham and in Alabama, jump here.)
So Boss and I recently found ourselves at Good People Brewing Company’s headquarters, just steps away from Railroad Park, on a steamy summer afternoon. The taproom was overflowing with all different walks of people. The beer was cold, refreshing. The energy was relaxed, yet tinged with excitement.
These days in Birmingham, “Good People Drink Great Beer”. Indeed, we do. We can’t get enough, in fact. Visit one of your local breweries this weekend, and get a taste for just how badly Birmingham craves its craft brews.
Keep ‘em comin’, I say. And as those Lake brothers say over in Avondale, “TRUNKS UP!”
