Take advantage of all Birmingham has to offer…this Saturday!

So, not too long ago I unfairly criticized a fellow Birmingham transplant after she eluded to being “bored” in the Magic City. And, after I groveled at her feet, begging for forgiveness after such a harsh post that pointed an accusing finger at her (rather than the concept of being bored in such a vibrant city), we sat and laughed about it and then started plotting ways we could stir up even more great energy.

Dear “bored” friend, if you are reading, perhaps this will tickle your fancy…

Area cultural organizations have planned a special members-only day of free admission and family-friendly activities to take place this Saturday, July 21 . One valid membership card admits 2 adults and up to 4 children into every single participating venue, all day long. Even more, there are great culture-rich activities planned throughout the day that both young and old can enjoy.

Let me refer you to Birmingham365.org for the full schedule of performances and activites. But before you hop on over, let me tease you with the healthy array of participating attractions/performers:

Alabama Ballet

Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum

Birmingham Children’s Theatre

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

Birmingham History Center

Birmingham Museum of Art

Friends of the Birmingham Public Library

Birmingham Zoo

Cultural Alliance/Birmingham365.org

Embellishments Handbell Ensemble

McWane Science Center

Red Mountain Theatre Company

Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Central Alabama

Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival

Southern Museum of Flight

Vulcan Park And Museum

Later on Saturday, our little four-pack family will gather with a dozen four-year olds at Paramount downtown for a sugary sweet birthday celebration to honor Sweet Pea. But we’re planning to start our day in Leeds at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. Both boys are looking forward to the onslaught of engines and wheels and things that zoom. Maybe we’ll run in to a few of you there!

No matter where you live in the metro area, please do take advantage of this great opportunity to experience the area’s phenomenal cultural attractions. Birmingham is brimming with creative and entertaining offerings…isn’t it time you enjoyed a few?
